Lightridge Park in Aldie VA: What’s Coming Near Lightridge High School
If you live near Lightridge High School, there's a major new community amenity in the works that you'll want to know about.
Lightridge Park, formerly known as Dulles South Community Park, is planned for the county-owned property adjacent to Lightridge High School. The project is currently about 95% through the design phase, according to Loudoun County.
And this isn't just a couple of ball fields.
Plans call for a mix of active recreation and quieter outdoor spaces — making this a potentially significant addition for families and residents in this part of Loudoun County.
What Is Planned for Lightridge Park Aldie VA?
Loudoun County's current plans for Lightridge Park include both active and passive recreation.
The county says passive areas may include playgrounds, picnic areas, trails, wooded areas and streams. Active recreation may include baseball or softball fields and large rectangular athletic fields. Plans also call for field lighting, fencing, parking, landscaping, public restrooms, concessions, irrigation, picnic pavilions, bleachers and signage.
One detail I especially appreciate: the county says the athletic fields are being designed in a way that maintains the existing western woods on the property.
Earlier project materials have also described plans that include a cricket field and street hockey rink, although the county's current main project page describes the active recreation areas more generally.
Where Will Lightridge Park Be Located?
The park will be located adjacent to Lightridge High School in the Aldie area.
For those of us who spend a lot of time around Lightridge, that makes this particularly interesting. Instead of being a recreational destination somewhere across Loudoun County, this will be an amenity right here in the community.
The project encompasses approximately 34 acres, according to county planning materials.
When Will Lightridge Park Open?
Don't grab the picnic blanket quite yet. This is a longer-term project.
As of September 2026, Loudoun County lists the project as 95% through design. The county's current estimated schedule is:
Design: through winter 2027
Contractor procurement and award: winter through summer 2027
Construction: summer 2027 through fall 2028
Substantial completion: fall 2028
As with any major capital project, those dates can change as the project moves through design, procurement and construction.
Why Lightridge Park Matters for the Aldie Community
This is the kind of local project I like to keep an eye on because living in a community is about much more than the houses.
Parks, trails, recreation facilities and gathering spaces become part of how families actually experience their neighborhoods.
For families with athletes, Lightridge Park could mean additional fields and recreational options close to home. For residents looking for something quieter, the planned trails, wooded areas, streams, picnic areas and pavilions could provide another place to enjoy the outdoors without leaving the immediate area.
And for those of us who already spend what feels like half our lives somewhere around Lightridge High School — you know who you are — having another major community amenity next door will be worth watching.
From Dulles South Community Park to Lightridge Park
If the project sounds familiar but the name doesn't, there's a reason.
For years, plans referred to the project as Dulles South Community Park. In May 2026, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors officially approved the name Lightridge Park following community input and a recommendation from the county's Parks, Recreation and Open Space Board.
So if you come across older documents or references to Dulles South Community Park, they're referring to the project now called Lightridge Park.

Lightridge Park won't be finished tomorrow, but it's another example of how this part of Loudoun continues to evolve.
