South Riding just got a whole lot more interesting—and yes, more delicious.
If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been keeping a close eye on the opening of Makers Union here in South Riding. I’ve written about it before, but this time? I finally got to experience it for myself—during opening weekend no less—and I have thoughts.
Let’s just say… it lived up to the anticipation.
First Impressions of Makers Union South Riding: Elevated, but Still Approachable
From the moment we walked in, the energy felt right.
Makers Union strikes that balance that’s surprisingly hard to find—it’s polished without being pretentious, lively without being overwhelming. The design leans modern, but it still feels warm and welcoming. The kind of place where you can meet friends for brunch, bring your family for dinner, or sit at the bar and unwind after a long day.
And for South Riding? This feels like a real upgrade.
Let’s Talk About the Food
We came hungry—and that was the right decision.
The menu at Makers Union is a creative spin on comfort food, but elevated. Familiar flavors, just done better. Everything we tried felt intentional, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully presented.

Here’s what stood out:
Chicken & Waffles
Crispy, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The waffles were light and fluffy, and paired with the chicken exactly how you want them to. This is one of those dishes you order “just to try” and end up finishing.
Prime Rib French Dip
This one surprised me in the best way. The prime rib was incredibly well-seasoned and tender, the bread was fresh, and everything came together in that rich, satisfying way you want from a French dip. Definitely one I would go back for.
Brussels Sprouts
If you think you don’t like Brussels sprouts, this might change your mind. Crispy, flavorful, and layered with just the right amount of seasoning—they didn’t last long at the table. (I could order these again and again and again!)

Makers Wings (Old Bay)
We started with the wings, and they were a hit. Well-seasoned with that Old Bay flavor, cooked just right—and let’s just say my husband made sure there were no leftovers.
Weekend Brunch? Say Less.

One thing that immediately caught my attention:
Unlimited family-style brunch for $25.
If you know me, you know I love a good brunch moment—and this feels like it’s going to become a thing in South Riding. The kind of place where weekends turn into standing plans.
The Vibe: Community-Centered (And That Matters)
What stood out to me most wasn’t just the food—it was the feeling.
Makers Union already feels like a place people will gather. Friends meeting up, families celebrating, neighbors running into each other. It has that “this is where we go now” energy.
And if you live in or around South Riding, you know exactly how important that is. We don’t just want restaurants—we want places that feel like part of the community.
This is one of those places.
Final Thoughts
Makers Union didn’t just open—they arrived.
From the atmosphere to the menu to the overall experience, it’s clear this was thoughtfully done. And while it’s still early, I can already see this becoming a go-to spot for so many people in our area.
South Riding—you’re going to want to check this one out.
Have You Been Yet?
If you’ve already stopped by Makers Union, I’d love to hear what you think.
And if you haven’t—add it to your list.
Trust me on this one.
