One of the things I hear most from people who move out here is how surprised they are by how much there is to do. Aldie sits in one of the most activity-rich corridors in Northern Virginia — wineries, breweries, trails, parks, farmers markets, and more, all within a short drive. Here's your guide to the best things to do near Aldie VA this summer.
The Best Things to Do Near Aldie VA This Summer
Whether you've lived here for years or you just moved in, this list will give you a full summer's worth of reasons to love where you live.
1. Gilbert's Corner Farmers Market
Right at the intersection of Routes 15 and 50 — essentially in Aldie's backyard — Gilbert's Corner Farmers Market runs every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3:30pm. Fresh produce, pasture-raised meats, French pastries, and some of the best barbecue you'll find anywhere in Loudoun County. Summer brings peak season strawberries from Wegmeyer Farms and towering sunflower fields that are worth the trip on their own. This is the one to put on a standing Saturday rotation.
2. Lark Brewing Company — Aldie
You don't have to leave Aldie for a great craft beer experience. Lark Brewing's farm-style taproom is right here — spacious patios, cozy firepits, food events, trivia nights, and live music throughout the summer. Family-friendly and dog-friendly, it's the kind of place where a Saturday afternoon turns into an evening without anyone noticing. One of the most underrated spots in the area and a genuine community gathering place.
3. Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park — Aldie
For families with younger kids, Hanson Regional Park is a summer staple. The splash pad is one of the best free water play options in Loudoun County — clean, well-maintained, and beloved by the Aldie community. The adjacent playground is large, modern, and built with cushioned ground material so the inevitable falls are less dramatic. Add the picnic areas and walking paths and you have a full family morning without spending a dollar.
4. Stone Tower Winery — Leesburg
For the adults-only summer afternoon, Stone Tower Winery perches atop Hogback Mountain on 300 scenic acres with panoramic vineyard views that are genuinely hard to beat anywhere in Virginia. Elegant tasting spaces, award-winning blends, and a setting that makes every glass taste better. It's about 20 minutes from Aldie and absolutely worth the drive. Go on a weekday if you can — weekends fill up fast.
5. Greenhill Winery and Vineyards — Middleburg
Greenhill is consistently among the most-praised wineries in the area and a short, beautiful drive from Aldie along Route 50. The views are stunning, the wine is excellent, and the atmosphere strikes the right balance between polished and relaxed. Dog-friendly outdoors and a great option for a summer evening when the light on the vineyard is something else entirely.
6. Beaverdam Reservoir — Loudoun County
Beaverdam Reservoir is open daily through August 16th and has quickly become one of the most talked-about outdoor destinations in Loudoun County since opening in 2024. A 7-mile loop trail around the water with boardwalks, boat rentals, fishing, birdwatching, picnic areas, hiking, and trail running — it's a completely different kind of summer day than a water park or a winery. Get there before August 16th and add it to your list before the season wraps up.
7. Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve — Leesburg
For a quieter outdoor escape, Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve delivers serene trails through wetlands, meadows, and forests with abundant wildlife and views that remind you why people move out here in the first place. It's one of the most peaceful spots in Loudoun County and well worth knowing about when the summer heat calls for shade and stillness rather than crowds.
8. Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum — Chantilly
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly is one of the great free museum experiences in the entire region and an easy drive from Aldie. The Space Shuttle Discovery, a Concorde, and hundreds of historic aircraft fill a facility that genuinely impresses adults and kids alike. Free admission, free parking on certain days, and a full morning well spent. A summer staple for Aldie families with kids of any age.
9. Quattro Goombas Winery — Aldie
Another local gem worth knowing: Quattro Goombas Winery is right in the Aldie area and offers a laid-back, unpretentious tasting experience with wines you can actually afford to take home. The staff is knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it's the kind of neighborhood winery that rewards being a regular. Under $10 wines, great conversation, and no reservation required.
10. W&OD Trail
The Washington & Old Dominion Trail runs through this part of Northern Virginia and offers one of the best biking and running corridors in the region — paved, well-maintained, and accessible from multiple points near Aldie and South Riding. Summer mornings on the W&OD before the heat peaks are one of those lifestyle details that makes living out here feel genuinely different from the rest of the region. If you haven't made it a habit yet, this is the summer to start.
One More Thing
Living close to all of this isn't a coincidence — it's one of the reasons families choose Aldie and keep choosing it. The lifestyle here is the selling point just as much as the square footage and the schools.
If you're curious about what that lifestyle is worth in today's market, I'm happy to have that conversation.
